FAQ. questions

Who can benefit from CBT?
Many people can benefit from CBT, ACT, and Mindfulness. Usually CBT, ACT, and Mindfulness work well with psychological problems of depression, anxiety, phobias, eating disorders and others. They are also helpful in addressing the psychological repercussion of physiological problems such as Chronic Fatigue.
CBT can help with work related issues such as bullying, decision making and any other conditions resulting from life changes.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Compassion Focus Therapy and Mindfulness are very helpful therapies across diagnosis. They help us view problems in a differ way, respond to past and present events using concepts and knowledge of how our brain works. ACT, CFT, and MBT are based on neuroscience and neuroplasticity. CFT is highly recommended for complex and historical traumas such as childhood physical, mental, sexual, and emotional abuse.

How long is the therapy?
Usually you will come for therapy once a week for one hour. The first session is used to make an assessment in order to prepare a plan for treatment. Generally we will contract for about six weeks, then review your progress and, if necessary, re-contract for more sessions. Hopefully, at the end of your treatment, you will have learnt new skills that you can use on your own in the future.

What is an accredited therapist?
When you choose a counsellor or psychotherapist it is important to know that they work to certain standards of good practice as a professional because you will have to trust their confidentiality and expertise. Not all therapist belong to a professional body. To be a member of a professional body such as the BABCP means that the therapist has met certain requirements of professionalism set by their member organisation and must abide by a code of ethics and complaints procedure.

An accredited member with a professional body means the individual must have achieved a high level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
